Following backlash over Cierra’s use of a racial slur, her friends MJ Hedderman and Johnnie Olivia are breaking their silence and distancing themselves from the situation.
Love Island USA Season 7 Cierra used a racial slur targeting Asians. Now, two of her close friends; MJ Hedderman and Johnnie Olivia have responded publicly, each offering their own perspective on the controversy and where they stand.
MJ Hedderman, who had been helping manage Cierra’s social media, said she was unaware of the screenshots until the public saw them. “I want to be clear that I do not condone racism, bigotry or hate in any way, shape or form,” she wrote in an Instagram story. She also shared that she’s stepping away from running Cierra’s account and was asked by Cierra’s family to turn off comments and refrain from speaking on her behalf. “This situation has been really difficult, and I’m still processing everything,” she added.
Johnnie Olivia also addressed the situation, explaining why she has stopped publicly supporting Cierra. “Once I came across that post, I felt it was necessary to take a step back. I do not support or condone that kind of language never have, never will.” She emphasized that “racism in any form is unacceptable,” she also said: “To be clear, unless you are Asian, you do not get to decide whether or not that word is offensive.” Which by that she said she means people who are saying that the word Cierra used is “not that deep”.
